2 rescued from Tuesday night house fire, Des Moines Fire Department says

The fire happened near 17th Street and Forest Avenue just after 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Two people were rescued from a late night house fire on Tuesday, according to the Des Moines Fire Department

Crews responded near 17th Street and Forest Avenue, not far from Drake University's campus, after occupants inside the house called and said they were unable to escape the house.

Firefighters on the scene told Local 5 they found smoke and flames in the back of the house. Ahaman Douglass with the Des Moines Fire Department confirmed that two people were rescued.

The victims were later taken to the hospital, and their current condition is unknown.

At this point, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Des Moines police closed roads nearby during the response.
