JASPER COUNTY – A 78-year-old man is dead after being trapped inside a grain bin in Jasper County.
According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call was placed around 8 a.m. on Thursday to a report of a person trapped in a grain bin.
Kellogg Fire/EMS and Newton Fire/EMS were contacted to respond to the scene. First rescue crews on scene found David William (Bill) Hotger, 78, from rural Kellogg. Hotger was found inside the grain bin. Efforts were made to remove the Hotger.
A Mercy One helicopter was also dispatched and landed at the homestead of the call for service. Hotger was transported by helicopter to a Des Moines area hospital. Hotger did not survive.
The Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy to determine cause of death.
