DES MOINES – A Des Moines man who crashed his car into a pole, killing his girlfriend, was sent away to prison for 15 years on Wednesday in Polk County court.
Troy Mure Jr. was convicted of vehicular homicide and reckless driving for the crash back in November of last year where his car ended up wrapped around a power pole off Ingersoll Avenue in Des Moines.
The passenger, Scalicity Boyd, a mother of four, died at the scene.
Mure expressed regretting during the sentencing hearing Wednesday, saying Scalicity was his true love.
“It’s because of my action that we lost someone we all love. Sometimes I lie awake and wish it was me and not her,” he told the judge. The judge said it was only the second time somebody apologized for their actions in his courtroom.
Scalicity Boyd’s sister also spoke during the hearing, reading a victim impact statement: “You robbed her. You robbed her kids, you robbed all of us with no remorse no regret,” said Scotneisha Perez.
Mure was sentenced to 15 years, but a must serve a minimum of three. His family watched him be escorted away to prison, and said they still loved and supported him.
