The shot went off around 9:40 a.m. in one of the center's bathrooms, where police say damage was later found. The person who fired the shot claimed it was an accident when he was later located off the hospital campus.
"There were no injuries and no suspects ... The person responsible reported the weapon had gone off accidentally and he got scared and left the hospital," the press release read.
The hospital, which is located at West 9th Street in Waterloo, is no longer under lockdown.
