DES MOINES, Iowa — Some MidAmerican Energy customers are without power Tuesday night.

The MidAmerican outage map shows 70 customers in the Des Moines metro are affected by the power outage as of 9:10 p.m. Earlier in the evening, more than 1,500 customers were without power.

The majority of outages are located near the King Irving, Kirkwood Glen and the Mondamin Presidential neighborhoods.

The map originally reported the outage was caused by "a tree making contact with electric facilities". However, representatives for MidAmerican say no power line was downed. Instead, they believe a lightning strike caused the outage.

Crews are currently on their way to the scene. The estimated time of restoration is 10:30 p.m.

Des Moines police issued a warning on X regarding the outage, urging residents to be safe on the roads.

"Stay alert on your approach to intersections as traffic signals may be impacted," the agency wrote.
