CALHOUN COUNTY, Iowa — The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office says search crews located the body of a missing Rockwell City man Friday afternoon.
54-year-old Mark Riesberg was found dead in his Chrysler PT Cruiser at a "wooded abandoned property" in Calhoun County. United Cajun Navy, a nonprofit search-and-rescue organization, says their members were the ones to find his body.
The sheriff's office says preliminary findings indicate Riesberg died of "a single gunshot wound." Foul play is not suspected.
Riesberg's body has been sent to the state medical examiner.
Riesberg disappeared from his home along Highway 20 on Saturday, Oct. 28, leaving behind his phone and wallet.
"Wednesday, when he didn't come into his work, they went to his place, saw he wasn't there," Riesberg's sister, Mary Brown, told Local 5. "And then they called law enforcement for a welfare check, and they weren't able to find him."
Riesberg's disappearance coincided with the disappearance of another Iowa man, David Schultz of Wall Lake. Local law enforcement, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and United Cajun Navy have been extensively searching for the two men ever since.
"I want him home. You know, my kids need their dad," Schultz's wife, Sarah Schultz, told Local 5. "He's a good man, I just, I want my David ... he's mine. And someone took him, I know someone took him."
Search crews continue to search for Schultz. Authorities do not believe the two incidents are related.
