Search continues for 2 missing Iowa men

Rockwell City resident Mark Riesberg disappeared from home on Oct. 28 and David Schultz of Wall Lake was reported missing on Nov. 21.

SAC COUNTY, Iowa — In the past month, two Iowa men have suddenly vanished, with confusion surrounding their disappearances continuing to build.

First, Rockwell City resident Mark Riesberg disappeared from his home, which is located just off Highway 20. While Riesberg's wallet and phone were left behind, his car was not.

Riesberg's sister Mary Brown is puzzled by the disappearance of her brother, growing desperate for signs.

"Wednesday, when he didn't come into his work, they went to his place, saw he wasn't there," Brown told Local 5. "And then they called law enforcement for a welfare check, and they weren't able to find him."

Brown said that Riesberg worked a shift Friday night at Bomgaars in Sac City, and had been texting his boss from his primary job at Essentia in Lytton on Saturday.

By Sunday, he was gone.

"He's got new work boots sitting by his recliner, his winter socks are still in the package he had just bought. The leftovers are still in the refrigerator," Brown said.

Less than 20 miles away from Riesberg's home, another man was also reported missing.

David Schultz of Wall Lake was set to deliver a haul of hogs, driving along Highway 71.

But the following morning, his truck was found parked in the roadway, his phone and wallet left behind and his jacket located in a nearby ditch.

Nonprofit United Cajun Navy out of Louisiana put a search crew on the ground to look for both men. Their efforts have continued for several days.

"You know, that's just kind of what we wanted to offer and bring in," said Jake Rowley, the Midwest Team Leader for United Cajun Navy. "The community of Sac City has been awesome ... from Saturday until now, I've had 200 volunteers clocked."

Searching all along Highway 71 and Highway 20, dozens of volunteers continue to comb the area, looking for any sign of the two men.

"From the beginning, until we've turned over every lead along Highway 20 and Highway 71, we really can't, we can't lose hope until that has happened," Rowley said.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is now assisting local law enforcement in both cases.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of both men is asked to contact their local law enforcement agency.
