DES MOINES, Iowa — Social media star and librarian Mychal Threets stopped in the Des Moines metro this week, visiting the Des Moines Public Library and the West Des Moines Public Library.
Known online as "Mychal the Librarian", Threets has more than 682,000 TikTok followers and 704,000 Instagram followers. Online, he shares stories of his experience working at Solano County Library in Fairfield, Calif. and promotes the importance of public libraries.
In a Facebook post, the Des Moines Public Library says Threets joined the staff to discuss how they can spread "library joy".
The West Des Moines Library shared a similar sentiment, writing on Facebook, "[Threets'] ability to spread library joy around the country is contagious, and we were honored to host him in West Des Moines!"
During his time in the metro, Threets snagged a picture with Rosie Reader, the DMPL mascot, and even got his own West Des Moines Library card.
"This was such a great reminder of connection, of how library people across the nation need encouragement," Threets said in a Facebook post. "Library land is lovely, but it can be so difficult at the same time! I’m beyond proud of their hard work, I’m going to do all I can to support them!"
