PERRY, Iowa — As students in Perry return to school just weeks after a deadly school shooting on the Perry High School campus, Ankeny-based nonprofit FOCUSS is stepping up to help families in need.
The group's founder said his team was boots-on-the-ground in Perry the day of the shooting helping families. That's when many people told FOCUSS they didn't have phones or internet to communicate with family about the shooting and let others know their condition.
So, on Thursday, Jan. 25 at the Perry Public Library, FOCUSS is partnering with US Cellular to hand out 100 mobile hot spots to Perry families with school-aged children from 3 to 6 p.m.
Families who participate will also get 2 years of free WiFi service.
FOCUSS will also hand out donations they've collected for Perry families.
