NORWALK – A little girl is holding out hold that her bike will be recovered and returned to her, but her mother doubts that a reunion is at all possible.
Anna Bella Hook is like most kids.
“She plays on her bike every day when it’s nice out, and we just got her that bike in the summer and now, she’s pretty sad about it.,” said Anna Bella’s mother, Stefanie. “We were actually going to take the training wheels off and teach her how to ride it without training wheels this weekend.”
For now, though, she’s playing with a scooter.
“She followed my instruction not to leave it by the curb,” said Stefanie Hook.
The Hooks say Anna Bella was playing in her front yard Saturday afternoon and left her bike by this bench, when it got snatched up by a red pickup—looking for discarded junk.
“The neighbor kids even told me that they even chased after the truck because they saw the bike in the back of the truck but the truck didn’t stop,” said Hook.
So far they haven’t filed a police report.
“It’s not something that I can easily go buy today to replace it,” said Hook. “It’s going to take some time to get a new bike.”
One thing she might purchase now is a surveillance camera, especially for clean-up times like this where the whole neighborhood is vulnerable.
“With the constant reports of theft in Norwalk area, I thought it would better to be secure and to have that proof of something that someone did,” she said.
A neighbor passed this surveillance video to us, showing an old pickup down their street, but Stefanie’s not sure how much it will help.
“I just feel like it’s a lost cause,” she said. “I don’t think we’re going to get the bike back. I think it’s completely gone.”
Norwalk police say this is a good reminder to always keep an eye on all of your stuff. It can especially true during these city-wide junk pick-ups.
