Over 1,300 in Des Moines metro impacted by electrical outage Wednesday night following wire down

The outage comes is believed to have been caused by a downed power line at 92nd Street and University Avenue in West Des Moines.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Over 1,300 in the Des Moines metro were without power Wednesday night according to MidAmerican

The company's website lists no reported outages at 10:30 p.m.  

A downed power line that occurred near the intersection of 92nd Street and University Avenue in West Des Moines is believed to be connected to the outages, but is not confirmed at this time.

The cause for the outages was a pole being struck by a car, MidAmerican told Local 5.

West Des Moines police officers and a firetruck were on scene at the downed powerline along with MidAmerican crews working to return power to affected customers.

MidAmerican expected most customers to have restored power by midnight at the latest, according to its website.
