Perry, Iowa: Police say threats were made against schools, but none are credible

The Perry Community School District administration team is aware of an unfounded threat made against the schools and a "concerning" social media post.

PERRY, Iowa — Perry police say threats made on social media by Perry Community School District students are not credible.

On Saturday, Feb. 3, parents and students reported that "a student had made a threat that was supposed to occur" on Monday, Feb. 5.

Police claim another student also posted a photo on social media that was "concerning".

Both threats were deemed not credible after investigation.

Perry Community School District administration is aware of both threats, and Perry Police Department officers will continue to be at the schools for the foreseeable future.

These threats come just a month after a deadly school shooting at Perry High School. On Jan. 4, 11-year-old Ahmir Jolliff, a student at Perry Middle School, was killed. High School Principal Dan Marburger died from injuries sustained during the shooting just 10 days later.

In the weeks following the shooting, the Perry Community School District has made some changes to prioritize safety: Students are required to enter through the main door of the school and must exit the building within 15 minutes of the last bell.
