WEST DES MOINES — Police are looking for leads after shots were fired into two homes.
According to the West Des Moines Police Department, officers were called to a home near 50th Street and Ashworth Road around 12:45 a.m. Sunday for a report of a bullet hole through their front window. Officers were unable to locate anything at the time.
Later Sunday morning, a resident in the same area reported that the front window to his home had been shot and a spent bullet was found in his kitchen area.
At 9:45 a.m., a resident in the 1000 block of 45th St reported that their front window had been damaged by a bullet and that the bullet was still lodged in the window.
“At this point, it is unknown if the homes were the intended targets or if there was some other criminal activity happening and this was the result of stray bullets,” the West Des Moines Police Department said in a release.
Police say no injuries or victims have come forward, and that officers canvased the area and spoke with several neighbors, many reporting that they may have heard the gunshots, however the noises could have been attributed to the storm.
Around 12:45 a.m. Monday, an unoccupied, suspicious vehicle was located that is believed to be possibly involved in the incident.
The vehicle has been impounded and a search warrant is underway.
Police are also collecting any home surveillance video that residents may have to offer and asking the public to come forward if they have any additional information.
