DES MOINES, Iowa — At least one person is injured after a fire at a used auto parts store in Des Moines on Friday afternoon, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
The blaze began around 1:20 p.m. on Friday at the U-Pull-It on NE 44th Avenue. Polk County Sheriff's Office reports the injured person has minor injuries from 1st-degree burns and smoke inhalation and was taken to a nearby hospital by family.
Polk County Sheriff's Office Capt. Ryan Evans told Local 5 there's no concerns of suspicious activity and the fire will most likely be ruled an accident. He also said preliminary investigation indicates the fire started by accident as gasoline fuel that employees were working with ignited and spread.
NE 14th Street was closed in both directions between NE Aurora and NE Broadway in order to lay hoses across the road. The road was reopened around 3:10 p.m.
The fire was mostly contained as of 2:30 p.m., according to Evans.
