DES MOINES – Polk County deputies found that a man in custody brought a gun into the jail last week, but it was quickly confiscated.

According to the Polk County sheriff’s office, a man named Dwight Lott was taken into custody on East Madison Avenue for allegedly driving while suspended and possession of a controlled substance. This happened on February 20 around 4 p.m.

Deputies transported Lott to the Polk County Jail where he was turned over to jail staff. While Lott was being processed into the jail, it was discovered that Lott brought a gun into the facility. Due to the jail protocols and practices, according to Polk County Sheriff’s deputies, this was discovered quickly and the weapon did not make it past the intake area. Lott was additionally charged with felon in possession of a firearm.
