‘What are you thankful for?’: Local 5 offers a listening 'ear' to fairgoers

Local 5's Connor O'Neal walked the Iowa State fairgrounds holding a giant corn cob asking people what they're thankful for, and the answers were anything but corny.

DES MOINES, Iowa — It’s year 2 of “King Cob” at the Iowa State Fair, and Local 5 reporter Connor O’Neal once again went around the fairgrounds holding a 4 ft. corn on the cob made by anchor Stephanie Angleson, with a GoPro camera sticking outward, asking fairgoers a new sort-of-simple question: "What are you thankful for?"

Here are a few things the Local 5 ear of corn heard from you this year at the Iowa State Fair:

“Good health. The cooler weather that we’ve had at the fair. Family.”

“Not only my life, but everyone else’s life. You gotta remember, some people didn’t wake up this morning.”

“I’m thankful for my family, I’m thankful for TV news.”

“[The city of] Marshalltown.”

“I’m thankful for delicious Iowa sweet corn.”

“The renewed political environment. Positivity.”

“That I grew up on a farm, but now I live in West Des Moines.”

“My daughter, grandkids.”

“My physical ability to be able to come out here every day.”

“Just to be here, first and foremost. You know, without all the people I wouldn’t be able to have a job out here.”

“The state of Iowa, it’s just a great place to live. ‘Yeah.’ State Fair is here. You got great food, great people. ‘I guess I would say the community I live in, too.’”

“My wife, kids, family.”

“I still have my 94-year-old mother.”

“My mom. ‘You’re so sweet. How about you, Forest?’ Food. ‘Food, yeah!’”
