Train derails in Red Oak Thursday, officials say

This is the third train derailment in Iowa in the last two weeks.

RED OAK, Iowa — At approximately 6:05 a.m. on Thursday, authorities received a call reporting a train derailment in Red Oak involving a vehicle, according to the Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency (MCEMA).

The Railcrew Xpress vehicle that was hit by one of the cars, had a driver inside at the time of impact. According to authorities, the driver was able to remove themselves from the vehicle before being taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

All four derailed cars that ended up in the south ditch were grain cars, and the MCEMA says there is no current threat to the public at this time. East Nuckols Street and Bluegrass Rd will be closed until further notice as the area is cleaned up.
