Waukee water rescue turns into recovery after man tried to retrieve boys' fishing pole

The man reportedly got stuck in the water after going in for the fishing pole.

WAUKEE, Iowa — Waukee emergency crews responded to a water emergency at the Kettlestone Commons Ponds Thursday afternoon after a 31-year-old man tried to recover a fishing pole for two boys.

After the good Samaritan passerby who was reportedly working in the area attempted to recover the pole, he became distressed in the water and the boys called 911 for help.

A search and rescue crew searched a three acre area that was 16 feet deep and Metro STAR dive team was on scene.

Authorities said that the boys did not see the man go under the water as they had run for help.

Waukee police has confirmed that the body of the man was recovered by the STAR team just after 6 p.m. Thursday.
