Don’t miss out on celebrating America’s 240th birthday during this 4th of July weekend. Check out all the parades, fireworks, and events going on around central Iowa to celebrate Independence Day!

Fireworks

Yankee Doodle Pops in Des Moines:

  • Fireworks follow the concert on Friday, July 1, West Terrace at the Iowa State Capitol. The night begins with a Concert Prelude at 6:30 p.m. followed by the annual Yankee Doodle Pops concert at 8:30 p.m.

West Des Moines:

  • Jordan Creek Town Center on July 3 at dusk; Live music beginning at 5 p.m. followed by the fireworks.
  • Raccoon River Park (2500 Grand Ave) at 8:45 p.m. on July 4

Urbandale:

  • Walker Johnston Park at 10 p.m. on July 4

Altoona:

  • Prairie Meadows’ Annual Fourth of July Extravaganza, July 3 at 9:30 p.m.

Ames:

  • Reiman Gardens on July 3 at dusk

Boone:

Windsor Heights

  • Colby Park on July 4 at 10 p.m.

Waukee

  • Centennial Park beginning at dusk on July 4.

Des Moines

  • Fireworks will be following the 7:08 p.m. game for the Iowa Cubs vs. Omaha Storm Chasers. 

Fort Dodge:

  • A free concert at Fort Frenzy on 3232 1st Avenue South at 6 p.m. will end the night with fireworks at dusk.

Nevada

  • Fireworks will be taking place at dusk at S.C.O.R.E Park on July 4.

Parades

West Des Moines:

  • 6:30 p.m. beginning at the corner of Valley West Drive (35th Street) and Ashworth Road, ending at Maple Street. For a full map of the route click here.

Urbandale:

  • Urbandale Chamber of Commerce on July 4 at 10 a.m.

Windsor Heights:

  • Windsor Heights Annual 4th of July Celebration at 1 p.m.

Waukee

  • Fourth of July celebration from 2-10:30 p.m. on July 4, parade begins at 3 p.m. through Historic Downtown and ending in Centennial Park.

Ames:

  • Parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Main Street. 

Nevada:

  • A parade will be taking place on July 4 along 6th Street to the American Legion starting at 10 a.m.

Events

Yankee Doodle Pops Concert: Friday, July 1, West Terrace at the Iowa State Capitol, 1007 E. Grand Avenue, Des Moines. Prelude concert begins at 6:30 p.m. and the Des Moines Symphony performance starts at 8:30 p.m. The concert and fireworks show are FREE to all.

Prairie Meadows Annual 4th of July Extravaganza: Saturday, July 2-Monday, July 4, 1 Prairie Meadows Drive, Altoona, IA, 50009. The weekend will be filled with buffets, racing, free performers, and fireworks. All ages are welcome and the cost is free!

Urbandale 4th of July 2016: From July 2 to July 4, Urbandale will have the weekend packed with a parade, fireworks, a carnival, live music, and much more. 

Osceola Independence Day Celebration: The theme for this year’s celebration is “Out of this World” on July 1-4. The weekend will be packed with live music, fun activities for the kids, contests, a carnival, and fireworks at 9:45 p.m. on the 4th.
