PLEASANT HILL, Iowa — Multiple fire crews responded to a grass fire near Yellow Banks Park on Friday.

The blaze was located about five miles east of the park. A Polk County Conservationist told Local 5 fires in the area have been burning off and on for around four days, but this most recent one started before 1 p.m. on Friday.

Altoona Fire Department crews were dispatched to the area around 12:55 p.m. As of 5 p.m., the fire is still burning but under control.

At this time, no cause is known. No injuries or property damages have been reported.

Reynolds, Pleasant Hill, Altoona, Bondurant, Elkhart and Delaware Township fire departments have assisted in the response.

Parts of the state have been under a Red Flag Warning at some point in the last week, with more than 20 county burn bans in effect across Iowa.

What is a Red Flag Warning?

Red Flag Warnings get issued when there are wind gusts of 30+ mph and humidity levels less than 25%.

This means our fire danger level is at a very high to extreme level. With the ongoing drought, a wildfire can easily spark in these conditions.
