NEWTON, Iowa — It may not be the $1.3 billion jackpot, but one lucky winner in Iowa is still walking away with a big prize.
Trent Baker, a firefighter, bought the $1 million Powerball ticket at a Hy-Vee grocery store, located at 1501 First Ave. East in Newton, the Iowa Lottery announced Sunday.
The Newton ticket matched the first five numbers but missed the Powerball, making it just one of seven tickets nationwide to win a $1 million prize.
"Baker said he was up early for work [Sunday] when he decided to use the Iowa Lottery app on his mobile phone to check the results of the five Powerball tickets he’d bought the night before," the Iowa Lottery said in a release. "His phone dinged on the second ticket he checked, indicating that it was a winner."
Saturday's winning numbers were 22-27-44-52-69 and Powerball 9. The Power Play number was 3.
The winning Powerball jackpot ticket was sold in Portland, Oregon. Before Saturday's drawing, the jackpot climbed for more than three months. Previously, the jackpot was won on New Year's Day.
The Powerball jackpot now returns to $20 million annuity or $9.4 million if taken as a lump-sum, with the next drawing falling on Monday.
