WASHINGTON — Former first lady Melania Trump's mother has died, she shared on social media. Amalija Knavs was 78.
“Amalija Knavs was a strong woman who always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity. She was entirely devoted to her husband, daughters, grandson, and son-in-law. We will miss her beyond measure and continue to honor and love her legacy,” she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Trump did not share a cause of death. In video from an event posted on X, president Donald Trump said last month that his mother-in-law was seriously ill and Melania was in the hospital helping care for her.
The former first lady's parents are from Slovenia and became U.S. citizens in 2018 while Donald Trump was in office.
