IOWA, USA — Rep. Ashley Hinson has won a second term to represent Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District, the Associated Press projects

The Republican incumbent defeated her challenger, Sarah Corkery, with 57.1% of the vote.

Jody Puffett, an Independent candidate, garnered 1.3% of the vote.

Hinson is a native Iowan who previously served in the Iowa state House representing the 67th District. Before her time in politics, she was an award-winning reporter for KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids.

Her website adds that as mother of two, she has a special interest in the safety and security of Iowa families.

Key issues Hinson’s campaign addressed include government accountability in spending, rural development, American energy independence as well as her pro-life stance.

Hinson and Corkery participated in a debate held by Iowa PBS in October, discussing topics such as immigration, a possible TikTok ban, foreign policy, education and abortion.

While Hinson said she does not support a full ban on abortion, moderators brought up the fact that she cosponsored the Life at Conception Act in January that would ban abortions without exceptions if enacted.

Corkery also accused Hinson of following Project 2025 plans when it came to education.

Key issues Hinson’s campaign addresses include government accountability in spending, rural development, American energy independence and anti-abortion legislation.

Hinson and Corkery are joined by Puffett, who although running as an Independent said she always considered herself a Republican before campaigning. She is running based on how she has disagreed with what Hinson has done in office.

A Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll from September showed 52% Republican support in the district compared to 44% Republican, 1% other and 4% not sure.

From 2020 to 2022, she represented Iowa's 1st Congressional District.
