STORY COUNTY, Iowa — The Story County Board of Supervisors is moving forward with an administrative vote recount after county leaders say some tabulation machines weren't able to read some ballots.
The machine error only affected voters in these 13 precincts throughout the county:
- Huxley Two/Palestine Twp
- Story City 1
- Story City 2/Lafayette Twp/Howard Twp
- Zearing/Lincoln/Sherman Twp
- Roland/Howard Twp
- Milford Township
- Slater/Sheldahl
- McCallsburg/ Warren Twp
- Nevada 1/Richland Twp
- Nevada 2/Grant Twp 2
- Nevada 4/Nevada Twp
- Washington Township
- Maxwell/Indian Creek Twp
Martin said some ballots at the affected precincts became jammed when voters tried to enter them into the machines. However, officials confirmed that those ballots were sealed and taken to the Story County Administration Building to be read using their tabulation machines.
Officials did not notice anything concerning with the results based on the number of ballots they sent out.
Still, Martin, who requested the recount, said it would give voters and herself peace of mind to know the numbers are accurate.
"We are going to check, you know, the voters against the ballots and against the results," she said at a meeting Thursday. "Just eyeballing the results that we posted, they look normal to us. I didn't see anything that popped out."
Martin also thanked the candidates and members of the community for their patience since election night, as well as the election workers who have spent long hours working to amend the issue.
The administrative recount will take place Friday at 10 a.m.
