While competitors debate, Vivek Ramaswamy records live podcast episode in Des Moines

Ramaswamy did not qualify for Wednesday's CNN debate after failing to meet polling requirements.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Editor's Note, 12:25 p.m.: A previous version of this article incorrectly identified the podcast as "The Tim Pool Daily Show". This has since been corrected.

While two of his competitors participated in the Republican presidential debate on CNN, Vivek Ramaswamy had plans of his own Wednesday night.

Ramaswamy joined podcast host Tim Pool live on "Timcast IRL", a political news podcastThe episode was recorded at Ramaswamy's campaign headquarters in downtown Des Moines, just across town from the debate at Drake University.

Ramaswamy did not qualify for Wednesday's debate after failing to meet a 10% threshold in three separate national or Iowa polls of Republican caucusgoers or primary voters.

Ramaswamy's campaign has heavily focused on scrapping longstanding federal agencies, like the FBI - an idea he reiterated Wednesday.

"I'm convinced the right answer is to shut down the Failed Bureau of Investigation, the FBI," he said. "That's the only answer that remains."

Ramaswamy also brought up immigration, saying that as president, he would end birthright citizenship for kids of undocumented immigrants and begin mass deportations across the country.

"Stop federal funding for sanctuary cities and pay for this," Ramaswamy said. "Our federal taxpayer money is actually paying for this facilitation for the domestic transfer to sanctuary cities. And then anybody in this country should be returned to their new country of origin if you're here illegally. It's that simple."

And while his competitors took jabs at each other across town, Ramaswamy also made a few jabs at one of his rivals, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley. Ramaswamy said Republicans are using Haley as a "puppet" to keep former President Donald Trump out of office. He also claimed Haley has no "actual" beliefs on foreign policy or partisan issues.
