Early voter guide for the 2024 General Election: Here's what you should know if you live in Iowa

The Nov. 5 election is just weeks away. Here's what you need to know before heading to the polls in Iowa.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — The 2024 General Election is just around the corner, taking place on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

The race for U.S. president between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris is arguably at the forefront of this year's election, but numerous national, statewide and local elections will also be taking place.

Here's some of the biggest questions voters in Iowa are asking as the election season draws near.

Early voting opens Wednesday, Oct. 16

Beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 16, Iowans can cast their votes early in person at their county auditor's office. Voters will be required to bring a valid ID. Some counties are offering satellite locations for early voting and you can find info on where to vote early at your local county auditor's website.

County auditors can start mailing out absentee ballots beginning Wednesday to those who have requested them.

To request an absentee ballot, Iowans need to download the absentee ballot request form and submit it by mail or in-person to their county auditor’s office. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Monday, Oct. 21, by 5 p.m. The county auditor must receive the request by then to send a ballot.
