BELLEVUE, Iowa — Three men were killed in a boating accident Sunday morning in Bellevue, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources reported.
Around 11 a.m. on Dec. 8, the men were fishing on the Mississippi River when their boat capsized. According to the DNR, the victims were fishing in a restricted area directly beneath Lock and Dam No. 12 when the boat overturned. Early reports said a strong backflow current created by the dam pulled the boat into "hazardous waters below the dam."
All three men were pulled from the water and taken to shore. Two were confirmed dead at the scene and the third was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The Iowa DNR has identified the three victims as of Monday afternoon.
