DES MOINES – A local rapper and the Des Moines police department are officially on YouTube together.
Local 5 brought viewers the story of rapper Will Keeps, who is trying to spread the message to end violence in the metro through the power of music. Keeps wanted to get the entire metro community involved, so he enlisted the help of Des Moines police chief Dana Wingert, who he met five years ago when their daughters played sports together.

“This dude is going to make a huge difference, and I’m so proud of him that he’s thinking outside the box,” said Keeps of Wingert and his department’s participation in the music video.
On Thursday, Keeps, along with Des Moines police officers, officially released, “Wake Up Iowa,” a music video filmed in Des Moines with students and police, calling for an end to violence. The groups gathered at Scavo High School earlier to celebrate the collaberation.
Keeps’ goal is to spread the video and its message across the state and even the country.
