IOWA CITY, Iowa — When Caitlin Clark's name is brought up, terms like GOAT and one-of-a-kind are thrown around.
Well, the Iowa Hawkeyes just made it official: Her collegiate jersey number, 22, will be retired.
"There will never be another," Iowa women's basketball shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The announcement comes as fans and teammates alike gathered at Carver-Hawkeye Arena for the team's end-of-season celebration, an event that acts as Clark's final farewell to the venue and school where she built an outstanding career.
The star point guard announced back in February she was headed to the WNBA following this season with the Hawkeyes.
She ended on a high note; Clark led the Hawkeyes to their second-consecutive appearance in the NCAA women's college basketball tournament championship, where they ultimately fell to South Carolina 87-75.
Though the team didn't take home the title, the Hawkeyes did help shatter previous viewing records, according to ESPN PR. The 2024 championship game boasted a whopping 18.9 million viewers.
Clark looks ahead to the April 15 WNBA Draft with another women's Wooden Award under her belt, plenty of new records in her name and a school that reveres her.
