Sunday's Reese-Clark matchup one-ups their previous WNBA viewership record

ESPN's broadcast averaged 2.3 million viewers which is the most in the last 23 years across all networks.

CHICAGO — Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever and Angel Reese's Chicago Sky have done it again and reset the record for most viewed WNBA game broadcast in the last 23 years across all networks on Sunday, according to ESPN. In this game, the Sky beat the Fever 88-87.

The June 23 ESPN broadcast of the game averaged 2.3 million viewers which topped CBS's June 16 coverage of the Fever beating the Sky which averaged 2.252 million.

CBS's broadcast only held the record for a week as viewership has ramped up due to what many call the Caitlin Clark Effect.

Sunday's tight game also peaked at 3.3 million viewers while the June 16 broadcast reached just shy of 3 million.

ESPN said its average viewership across all 12 of the WNBA games it has broadcast is up 179% compared to its 2023 season average.

4 of the top 5 viewed games of the WNBA season were ESPN Network broadcasts the sports network added in its release.

During the game Caitlin Clark totaled 17 points, a franchise-record setting 13 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals. However, the assists record was last set in June 2023.

Fever Guard Kelsey Mitchel led the team with 24 points, but it ultimately wasn't enough to beat the Sky who were led by Angel Reese's eighth-straight double-double performance in which she scored 25 points and tallied 16 rebounds.

Next up, the Fever head to Seattle to take on the Storm Thursday, June 27 at 9 p.m. central time. It will be broadcast on Local 5. You can view the rest of Local 5's Fever season broadcast schedule here.
