DES MOINES, Iowa — Former Drake basketball player Jeff Hill is ringing in 10 years of giving back this holiday season.
His organization — the Jeff Hill Future All-American Basketball Camp — hosted another annual Christmas giveaway this year, giving away 200 hams and turkeys to people in the Des Moines community.
The organization sponsored 20 families this year. Each family was able to make a Christmas wish list of the things they want most and what they need.
Hill told Local 5 it's important to give back to those in need.
"We're gonna take care of 200 people that way by feeding people, because people need stuff to eat. And a lot of times they don't have it," he said. "And we had a long line of people here waiting on food, or you can just tell that people need help. And we're here to help them."
Hill said he would not be able to put on this event without the help of businesses and volunteers in area.
"What I'm hoping is that more people go, 'What are we doing?' We need more people to give back, more people to help other people," he said. "If you help other people, it's really a blessing for you. It's a blessing for me to have that opportunity to do this."
