AMES, Iowa — A bye week has both pros and cons for college football teams. On one hand, they get a chance to recover physically and do some self-scouting. On the other hand, it can disrupt the momentum.
Coming into their bye week, Iowa State had a two-game win streak going, defeating TCU and Cincinnati.
Head coach Matt Campbell said they've tried to keep on their normal schedule as much as possible during their bye week in hopes of preventing a sluggish performance against Baylor on Saturday.
"I think 70% of power five football teams lose coming out of the bye," Campbell said. "I think it's a huge challenge to our team to be quite honest with you and you know, I think part of that challenge is you're in such a routine, in a rhythm and you can get off rhythm and I didn't want that to happen to this team."
"We were in full pads two days last week," said Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht. "We're not in full pads during the game week, only one day during game week. But having those two days of full pads last week was huge for us. Just staying with the physicality throughout the week and the precision that we needed, it's really going help us during this week getting ready for Baylor."
Iowa State will try and pick up its second road win of the season when they head to Waco to take on Baylor Saturday, Oct. 28 at 2:30 p.m.
