Cael Turner leads Creston to 7-0 start

The Panthers are off to their best start since 2016.

CRESTON, Iowa — Creston is off to a 7-0 start, and a big reason for that is Cael Turner. The senior quarterback leads 3A in passing touchdowns, passing yards and completion percentage.

"I get these guys to ball in space, and they make they make plays happen. I figure out how to get 'em the ball and best ways to make them succeed," Cael said. "And they figure out how to make me succeed. So it's good little tandem we got going."

His ability to adapt has brought the offense up a level.

"If something breaks, and he has to get outside, you know, he's athletic enough so he can run the football really well," said head coach Brian Morrison. "He can make those difficult passes out of the pocket and split decisions."

Crazily enough, this is Turner's first year under center. He started at safety his sophomore year and played wide receiver as a junior.

"This summer, he really dove into the playbook, the practice schedule, the practice plans," Morrison said. "He's definitely been one that we knew was going to be good. And I don't know the opponents knew of him."

Turner is one of 25 seniors that has led Creston to the No. 2 ranking in 3A.

"I've been waiting for this moment since for as long as I can remember. Having grown up in Creston and being born in Creston, this is all a dream."

No. 2 Creston hosts No. 6 Nevada on Friday night.
