CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The University of Northern Iowa (UNI) hired Todd Stepsis as the football team's head coach earlier this month.
Stepsis will earn a salary of $325,000 a year under a five-year contract that runs through Jan. 31, 2030.
Stepsis's contract includes multiple benefits and bonuses, such as a courtesy vehicle and country club membership. Stepsis will also be eligible for bonuses based on the performance of the team, such as a $50,000 bonus for winning a national championship.
If the football team makes an FCS Playoff appearance or wins at least seven games in 2025 or 2026, an additional year will be added to his contract.
If the university terminates Stepsis's contract without cause, he will receive his entire salary for the first year, and 65% of his contract for the rest of its term.
Stepsis will also receive an annual salary pool of $800,000 for his coaching staff, which could increase to $900,000 if additional funding is secured.
