2024 Principal Charity Classic: Everything you need to know

The 2024 Principal Charity Classic will feature eight past champions and six World Golf Hall of Famers. Here's what to know before you attend.

DES MOINES, Iowa — It's almost tee time in Des Moines as the Principal Charity Classic kicks off this week. 

The Principal Charity Classic is a mainstay on the PGA Tour Champions schedule. This year, the highly-anticipated event will feature eight past champions and six World Golf Hall of Famers.

If you're hoping to visit the newly-renovated Wakonda Club to see some world-class golf, here's what you need to know ahead of time.

How to buy tickets for the Principal Charity Classic

Principal Charity Classic attendees can choose from a variety of ticket options: 

  • Single-day ticket: $30
  • Five-day package: $90
    • Includes five single-day tickets that can be used any day
  • Trophy Club: $160
    • Gain exclusive access to an open-air patio, complimentary beer and a concession food voucher
    • Single-day admission

Kids 15 years old and younger receive free admission if attending with a ticketed adult.

Principal Charity Classic schedule 

The Principal Charity Classic kicks off Wednesday, May 29 with the Official Pro-Am. Professional competition begins Friday, May 31. 

  • Wednesday, May 29: Official Pro-Am
    • 7 a.m.: Gates open
    • 7 a.m.: Prairie Meadows Pro-Am begins
  • Thursday, May 30: Official Pro-Am
    • 7 a.m.: Gates open
    • 7 a.m.: UnitedHealthcare Pro-Am begins
    • 4 p.m.: Junior Clinic
  • Friday, May 31: Polk County Day
    • 8:30 a.m.: Gates open
    • 9:30 a.m.: Opening ceremony, 1 tee
    • 9:50 a.m.: First round of tournament play, 1 & 10 tees
  • Saturday, June 1: Family Day
    • 8:30 a.m.: Gates open
    • 9:50 a.m.: Second round of tournament play, 1 & 10 tees
  • Sunday, June 2: Sustainability Day
    • 8:30 a.m.: Gates open
    • 9:50 a.m.: Final round of tournament play, 1 & 10 tees
    • 4:45 p.m.: Trophy presentation

Principal Charity Club fan hubs will be open to the public all day beginning Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 2.

Principal Charity Classic parking, course map


Free parking is available at the downtown Park & Ride ramp at 830 6th Avenue, Des Moines. From there, guests will be directed toward the Wakonda Club by road signs. ADA parking is also available at this ramp. Mobility-impaired spectators should show the lot attendant an ADA parking pass to be directed to designated parking. 

Attendees looking to get dropped off or participate in a rideshare should set their GPS navigation to Wakonda Christian Church at 3938 Fleur Dr. in Des Moines. 

The main entrance for the tournament is on the south side of the course off Watrous Avenue. Enter the tournament grounds near the corner of Watrous Avenue and Southwest 14th Street in front of the 8 tee box.

What is the bag policy? What else should I bring?

The following types of bags are permitted at the 2024 Principal Charity Classic:

  • Bags smaller than 6' x 6" x 6"
  • Clear bags smaller than 12' x 6" x 12"
  • One gallon plastic freezer bags
  • Medically necessary bags or diaper bags

No other types of bags will be allowed into the event. Spectators can bring folding chairs, but should remove the chair bag before entry. 

Fans are encouraged to bring one empty, clear water bottle (32 oz. or smaller) to fill up at water stations throughout the course. 

Cell phones are permitted at the event, but should be set to silent or vibrate. Attendees are allowed to take video and photos for personal purposes only. No live-streaming will be allowed.

Notably, the Principal Charity Classic is a cashless event. Make sure to bring a credit or debit card to purchase tickets, concessions or merchandise.

What's the forecast for Des Moines this weekend?

The Local 5 Weather team anticipates warm, humid weather heading into the weekend. Temperatures should hit around 80 degrees Thursday, with rain moving in later in the evening. That rain could keep temperatures from rising too much Friday. 

Showers will linger east on Saturday but PCC spectators can expect temperatures close to 80 degrees both Saturday and Sunday.
