BOONE, Iowa — The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced Thursday that the Des Moines Area Community College will host its inaugural Division II Women's Golf Championship in 2025.
The NJCAA has held championships for women's golf in Division I and III since 2022, but this will be the very first for Division II. The 72-hole tournament will be hosted by DMACC's Boone campus from May 13-16 at Boone's Cedar Pointe Golf Course.
"Des Moines Area Community College is excited to host the first-ever NJCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship in Boone, Iowa," DMACC Director of Athletics BJ McGinn said in a news release. "We know Cedar Pointe Golf Course along with its staff, specifically the Pat Clemons Family and course superintendent Cory Henson, will have the venue in Championship condition."
Along with being the NJCAA's first Division II championship in women's golf, it will also mark the very first national championship ever hosted by DMACC. Adding to the news release, Cedar Pointe's original nine holes are believed to be one of the oldest golf courses in Iowa.
“We are looking forward to having the inaugural NJCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship this coming spring,” said NJCAA Division II Women’s Golf Chair Kevin O’Connor. "Cedar Pointe Golf Course and the Des Moines Area will provide the teams and individuals with a wonderful venue for this event.”
Cedar Pointe's original nine holes, designed in the early 1900s, are a classic-style course with trees lined alongside most holes. Built almost 100 years later, the second nine holes were designed in a links style featuring more sand traps and water hazards with fewer trees.
“Our community is appreciative of the chance to host such a high-class event,” McGinn said.
While the NJCAA is relatively new to hosting the women's golf championships, it has sponsored women's golf since 1976.
