BOONE, Iowa — The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and Iowa High School Sports Network (IHSSN) reached a media rights resolution Tuesday, which will put an end to the two sides' 2006 agreement, according to a joint statement.
The resolution includes requiring the IHSSN to make all final round livestreams free until it hands media rights back to the IHSSA. That will happen at the end of the athletic calendar, following the 2025 state baseball tournament.
Through the end of that tournament, the IHSSN will continue to cover "select IHSAA state tournament events for viewing via cable network, broadcast network, www.ihssn.com, and the Watch IHSSN app," according to the statement.
Quarterfinals, semifinals and any other preliminary state tournament rounds will still require a fee to livestream through the IHSSN.
The resolution follows an initial IHSAA petition filed in July of 2023 to combat the IHSSN's decision to begin charging viewers of event livestreams. Accompanying that petition, the IHSAA said it wanted to continue to offer free viewership of championship events.
The IHSSN had been exclusive rights holder of IHSSA events since 2006.
