WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — In honor of the Iowa State Fair, the Local 5 Sports Team asked local athletes and coaches about their favorite fair foods and activities.
"I'm a classic get the lemonade and get the corn dog first," said Drake football player Finn Claypool. "I think that you can't go wrong when you go with those two."
Valley head football coach Gary Swenson said he doesn't make it out to the fair often because of how busy he is preparing for football season, but if he did, he and his wife would go straight to the corndog stand.
"As a football coach. I don't know how you would get to the fair," said Swenson. "I mean, this is such a busy time of year. My wife loves corn dogs, so if we do go, that would be the first stand that she would want to stop at."
When asked about his favorite fair memory, Claypool thought of his grandparents.
"I think the big slide is always the big thing," he said. "I remember being a kid and going down with my grandparents."
