BOONE, Iowa — DMACC sophomore pitcher Courtney Donahue is ending her career at DMACC on a high note. Donahue was named the NJCAA Division II Softball Pitcher of the Year.
Donahue was a first team All-American this season, leading the nation in five categories. She had 386 total strikeouts on the year, averaging 14.48 per game. Donahue also threw four perfect games this season and six no-hitters.
"She has a very calm presence when she's on the mound," said DMACC head softball coach Bob Ligouri. "She's a very confident woman. She controls the zone. She controls her emotions. She basically is able to put the pitches exactly where she wants to, she's able to pitch to both sides of the plate. She doesn't walk people. She just dominates people."
Ligouri said he and his staff are thrilled Donahue is getting the recognition she deserves.
"We all know how much hard work she put in and what she did in the offseason," Ligouri said. "Anytime you see a young woman get rewarded for all the hard work and really the excellence that she had, it's really gratifying because it's much deserved."
Donahue will continue her softball career at Missouri next season. There, she'll join former DMACC Bear and Adel Native Molly Jacobsen-McCargar who is the pitching coach for the Tigers. Like Donahue, Jacobsen-McCargar was also named the NJCAA Division II Softball Pitcher of the year in 2018.
