IOWA CITY, Iowa — In a historic year that culminated in recently being named TIME Magazine's Athlete of the Year, Caitlin Clark will be bestowed one more honor, and this time from her alma mater.
The University of Iowa Athletics Department announced Wednesday Clark's college jersey number, 22, will be officially retired in a ceremony scheduled for Feb. 2, 2025.
"I'm forever proud to be a Hawkeye and Iowa holds a special place in my heart that is bigger than just basketball,” Clark said in the news release. "It means the world to me to receive this honor and to celebrate it with my family, friends and alumni. It will be a great feeling to look up in the rafters and see my jersey alongside those that I've admired for so long."
Clark will watch her former team face off against USC as her legacy gets immortalized in the rafters inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tipoff is 12:30 p.m. CT and the game will air on FOX and the Hawkeye Radio Network.

Retiring her number is a testament to her extraordinary contributions and a celebration of her legacy that will continue to inspire future generations. - NCAA D1 scoring leader with 3,900 total points, surpassing Pete Maravich (previous all-time points record holder) and Kelsey Plum (previous women's record holder)
- Passed AIAW's Lynette Woodard for major college scoring record
- All-time 3-pointers made leader in women's D1 basketball
- Led the Hawkeyes to their two consecutive NCAA championship games
- 2-time Consensus National Player of the Year
