DETROIT — The Detroit Lions roster took another major hit due to injuries on Sunday.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Monday that running back David Montgomery tore his MCL but "somehow finished the game" Sunday in a 48-42 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported it was an MCL sprain.
Both reporters noted the injury would sideline Montgomery for multiple weeks.
Head coach Matt Campbell confirmed on Monday afternoon that the running back would undergo season-ending surgery.
"David's so tough man, he continued to play through and then got it checked out today," he said.
The Lions, now at 12-2 on the season, have been riddled with injuries including:
- Defensive tackle Alim McNeill
- Defensive end Aidan Hutchinson
- Cornerback Carlton Davis
- Cornerback Emmanuel Moseley
- Linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez
- Wide receiver Kalif Raymond
- Linebacker Alex Anzalone
McNeill and Davis, along with linebacker Khalil Dorsey, were all injured in the game against Buffalo.
