Iowa may have just strengthened its case to be Tight End U.
George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers was named an Associated Press First-Team NFL All-Pro on Friday, while Detroit Lions rookie Sam LaPorta earned second-team honors.
Kittle caught 65 passes for 1,020 yards and six touchdowns for the 49ers, who are the top see in the NFC playoff field and as such, have a bye this week. This is his second time on the first team (2018, 2023) along with two second-team appearances (2018, 2022).
LaPorta hauled in 86 catches for 889 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Lions. While he left the team's regular-season finale last week with an injury, he is listed as questionable for Detroit's playoff matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
Both players are part of a lauded Iowa Hawkeye tight end legacy that includes Dallas Clark, Noah Fant and T.J. Hockenson.
