LAS VEGAS — There are only four teams left in the NFL playoffs on the road to Super Bowl LVII in Las Vegas.
The Kansas City Chiefs will play the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game and the Detroit Lions will face the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.
Below is a list of in-state football connections to this weekend's games.
AFC Championship Game: Kansas City Chiefs vs. Baltimore Ravens
Sunday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. CT (CBS)
Baltimore Ravens
Tyler Linderbaum (C, Iowa)
- Linderbaum is in his second year with Baltimore and was picked in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Charlie Kolar (TE, Iowa State)
- Kolar, a second-year tight end, has hauled in seven catches for 87 yards and one touchdown this year.
Geno Stone (DB, Iowa)
- Stone, a seventh-round draft pick in 2019, was second in the league this season with seven interceptions.
NFC Championship Game: Detroit Lions vs. San Francisco 49ers
Sunday, Jan. 28 at 5:30 p.m. CT (FOX)
Detroit Lions
David Montgomery (RB, Iowa State)
- Montgomery spent four years with the Chicago Bears before signing with the Lions as a free agent this past offseason.
Sam LaPorta (TE, Iowa)
- Another entry to the University of Iowa's "Tight End U" case, the rookie LaPorta was named a second-team AP All-Pro for his debut season.
Jack Campbell (LB, Iowa)
- Campbell was picked No. 18 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, the second of Detroit's two first-round picks and before his college teammate, Sam LaPorta, was picked.
Daurice Fountain (WR, Northern Iowa)
- Fountain has bounced around the NFL since 2018. The Lions are his fourth franchise after the Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears. He was signed to Detroit's practice squad in August. And for what it's worth, social media appears to be quite fond of Fountain's time in the NFL to date.
Matt Nelson (OT, Iowa)
- Now in his fourth year with Detroit, Nelson was placed on injured reserve in September due to an ankle injury. Nelson spent his time as a Hawkeye on the defensive side of the line.
San Francisco 49ers
Brock Purdy (QB, Iowa State)
- Purdy is no longer Mr. Irrelavent. After a stunning rise to the starting QB job last year followed by a playoff-ending injury, the 49ers are back on the doorstep of the Super Bowl.
George Kittle (TE, Iowa)
- Now in his seventh season, all Kittle has done is notch five Pro Bowl selections, two first-team All-Pro spots and two second-team All-Pro selections.
