PARIS, France — Iowa State alumna Lauren Mansfield and the Australian women's 3x3 basketball team are on a winning streak.
The team defeated China and defending champion USA Thursday to move up to second place in pool round standings.
Australia started the day with a 21-15 win over China. Mansfield was scoreless for the game, but teammate Alex Wilson scored 11 points and notched three rebounds. Meanwhile, teammate Marena Whittle scored seven points and recorded three rebounds of her own.
Just a few hours later, Australia faced Team USA and won 17-15.
Mansfield scored four points and teammate Alex Wilson led the team with eight points and a single rebound. The United States women's 3x3 team is now 0-3 in pool play.
The wins come just a day after Australia survived a nail-biter against Germany, defeating the team 21-19. Australia lost its first game in pool play to Canada, 22-14.
Mansfield and Team Australia will face Azerbaijan and Spain in the women's pool round on Friday. Australia will close pool play on Saturday against France. Find the full women's 3x3 basketball schedule here.
The top two teams at the end of the pool round will qualify for the semifinals, while the next four teams will participate in the Play-In Games.
Who is Lauren Mansfield?
Mansfield played for the Cyclones for two seasons (2010-2012). She was co-captain for the Cyclones during her senior year and averaged 8.2 points, 3.3 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game.
Mansfield also recorded 26 career games with five or more assists, and finished with double-figure scoring 11 times as a senior.
The now 34 year old moved back to Australia to start her professional career in 2012. She currently plays for the Adelaide Lightning.
Mansfield also has plenty of experience playing 3x3: her team won bronze in the Commonwealth Games and in the FIBA 3x3 World Cup. In 2024, she won gold with Australia at the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup and won the FIBA 3x3 Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
