OTTAWA, ON — Canadian Cloé Lacasse, a 2014 University of Iowa alum, has punched her ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympic games, the university announced Monday.
Lacasse, an Ontario native, will be the first Iowa women's soccer alum to to represent the program at the Olympics, playing for Team Canada.
“Congratulations to Cloe on a monumental achievement,” said Iowa Women's Soccer Head Coach Dave Dilanni. “This is truly an example of her commitment and perseverance to develop, grow and challenge the environments she has been put in along the way as a professional soccer player in order to accomplish her most lofty goals."
“We are so proud of her, as she represents Iowa Soccer with the utmost class and excellence,” Dilanni said.
The former two-time All-Big Ten First Team honoree joins an 18-player roster and is listed as one of six forwards.
"Words cannot fully express the emotions I felt when I received the news that I would represent Canada at the Olympics," said Lacasse who took to social media following her selection. "Growing up in Sudbury, Ontario, the first time I ever saw women’s soccer was on TV during the Olympics. That moment ignited my passion and love for the game and planted the seed of my dream to become a soccer player."
Team Canada won gold in women's soccer back in 2020, and is the only team to reach the podium the last three consecutive Olympics.
Lacasse holds on to multiple women's soccer Hawkeye records including career record shots taken with 306 and is tied for most career points with 112. she was also part of the program's first NCAA Tournament qualifying team in 2013.
Currently, Lacasse competes for Arsenal in the United Kingdom which is part of the Women’s Super League.
Lacasse will compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics from July 25 to Aug. 10.
