EUGENE, Oregon — With a group of past and present Hawkeye stars competing for spots on Team USA as the Paris Olympics draw nearer, University of Iowa alum Brittany Brown punched her ticket to the highest stage in the 200 meters.
Brown, 29, ran in lane nine and finished second overall with a personal record of 21.90 seconds beating third-place runner McKenzie Long who ran a 21.91. First-place was taken by Gabby Thomas who ran a 21.81.
She is the first Hawkeye to make the Olympics since 2016 when Kineke Alexander, Troy Doris and Diane Nukuri-Johnson qualified for the Rio games.
“We are all so proud of Brittany and everything she has overcome to make her first Olympic team! She had her PR performance at the perfect time to punch her ticket to Paris and we are so excited for her," Director of Iowa Track and Field, Joey Woody said. "Tonight wasn’t Paige’s best performance but this weekend doesn’t take away from the tremendous season she had. The 12.88 at the NCAA Championships and school record to finish as a second-team All-American were spectacular accomplishments. She has had an amazing career and thankfully, she’s coming back for her last indoor season next year, where she has some unfinished business.”
Iowa senior, Paige Magee, who was also running at qualifying missed the cut after running a 15.57 second race in the 100-meter hurdles. This was good for 26th in the semifinals. She closes her season as a second-team All-American in both 60-meter hurdles and 100-meter hurdles.
Olympic Trials come to an end Sunday in Eugene, OR with Iowa senior James Carter Jr. competing in the triple-jump finals. Fellow Iowa senior Austin Kresley will also be competing although qualifying for Team Mexico in the 200 meters.
The 2024 Paris Olympics begin Friday, July 26.
