Incoming University of Iowa gymnasts to represent Team Canada at 2024 Paris Olympics

Two Hawkeyes are setting the bar high by securing their spots on Canada's women's artistic gymnastics team.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa is well-represented on Canada's women's artistic gymnastics team. In fact, two incoming Iowa freshmen will make their Olympic debuts in Paris this year.

Aurélie Tran and Cassie Lee will both begin their collegiate gymnastics careers later this year, but before then, they will compete with Team Canada. The two Hawkeyes are part of a five-person team, joined by gymnasts Ellie Black, Shallon Olsen and Ava Stewart.

Tran qualified for the Olympics earlier in June after taking home a silver medal at the Canadian Gymnastics Championships. The Repentigny, Quebec native scored 108.131 in the all-around, a 26.7 on vault, 27.366 on bars, 27.199 on beam and 26.866 on floor.

Lee, hailing from Toronto, Ontario, was named to Team Canada on Friday. Earlier this month, Lee placed fifth on beam and 11th in all-around at the Canadian National Championships.

Previously, Lee competed with Team Canada at the 2023 Pan American Games, 2023 Pan American Championships and the 2023 World Gymnastics Championships.

The 2024 Olympics mark the first time in 20 years Canada will have a full men's and women's artistic gymnastics team at the games, according to Team Canada's website

Artistic gymnastics competitions will take place from July 27 to Aug. 5 at Bercy Arena in Paris.
