INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Fever announced Sunday the organization has parted ways with head coach Christie Sides.
The Fever returned to the playoffs this season for the first time since 2016.
In the two years Sides was the head coach, the Fever had a 33-47 regular-season record.
"We are incredibly thankful to Coach Sides for embracing the challenge of leading us through an integral transition period over the last two seasons, while also positioning us well for future growth," Fever President of Basketball Operations Kelly Krauskopf said in a news release. "While decisions like these are never easy, it is also imperative that we remain bold and assertive in the pursuit of our goals, which includes maximizing our talent and bringing another WNBA championship back to Indiana. Coach Sides was an incredible representative of the Fever and our community, and we wish her nothing but success in the future."
The Fever have not named a replacement for Sides at the time this article was published.
In August 2024, Sides became the first coach in franchise history to be named WNBA Coach of the Month.
The Fever rebounded from a 1-8 start to make the playoffs. The team finished with a 20-20 record and lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Sun.
Rookie Caitlin Clark had a record-breaking season on and off the court. She broke the WNBA single-season assist record, as well as setting the league's individual game mark. The unanimous AP Rookie of the Year also broke the rookie record for points in a season. Clark was also named to the 2024 All-WNBA First Team and WNBA Rookie of the Year.
In the regular season, Clark and Kelsey Mitchell both averaged 19.2 points per game, finishing in the top 10 in the league in scoring. Clark led the league in assists and 3-pointers made, averaging 8.4 and 3.0 per game, respectively. Aliyah Boston finished in the top 10 in the league in rebounding, with 8.9 per game.
