CenturyLink: Damaged fiber cable causes internet outage in Norwalk

"Restoring services for our customers is our top priority," a spokesperson for Lumen Technologies said in part.

NORWALK, Iowa — Some CenturyLink customers in Norwalk were without internet Tuesday due to a damaged fiber cable, Lumen Technologies told Local 5.

In a statement, a Lumen spokesperson said in part, "Restoring services for our customers is our top priority. We’ll provide regular updates, and we appreciate your patience and understanding."

Local 5 obtained a copy of an outage message a CenturyLink customer in Norwalk received Tuesday morning.

The message, which was displayed within the CenturyLink app, indicates CenturyLink is working on restoring internet and will have repairs completed by Tuesday, July 9 at 6:33 a.m.

DownDetector.com shows a spike in reported CenturyLink outages beginning at 5 a.m. Tuesday.

"Woke up to the (July 8 restoration) message in Norwalk, IA - just pushed out by five days," one commenter wrote Tuesday morning. "No urgency, no explanation."

In an updated statement, Lumen said, "All services have now been restored. Our technicians promptly identified the issue and worked diligently to resolve it."
