DES MOINES, Iowa — Move over, Spotify Wrapped. Another yearly wrap-up is having its time in the spotlight.
This year, Google is celebrating 25 Years of Search, and Des Moines-area residents can get in on the action. Here's what trending searches stood out in the Des Moines area, according to Des Moines' Local Year in Search.
"The Last of Us", a post-apocalyptic drama on HBO starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, was Des Moines' top trending T.V. show in 2023. It beat out other fan favorites such as "The Golden Bachelor" (ABC) and "The Night Agent" (Netflix) which came in second and third respectively.
While Time Magazine's Person of the Year didn't make a tour stop in the Hawkeye State, she still had an impact: "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" came in as the Des Moines' top trending "tour" search of 2023.
Central Iowans were also invested in boxing matches this year: The top two trending "versus" searches in the metro were "Jake Paul vs Nate Diaz" and "Logan Paul vs Dillon Danis". The World Series match-up, "Rangers vs Diamondbacks", rang in at No. 5 on the list.
It wasn't all fun and games, though: Des Moines residents had some more serious Google searches as well. Google says the Des Moines area was the only place in the country with "breaking news near me" as a top trending search.
